A Week To Forget

After a Champions League defeat against Fiorentina you’d think Liverpool would take the hint and improve their strategy on upcoming Premier League game against Chelsea right?
Well unfortunately things didn’t pan out so well in Stamford Bridge this weekend. When the Reds lost 0-2 to Chelsea, making this their second lose in a row. Bunking down Liverpool to the fifth spot on the road to Premiership gold.
The team that played off against Fiorentina stayed pretty much the same, with only two changes being made to the roster. Rafa Benitez brought in Albert Riera and Mascherano for Yossi Benayoun and Fabio Aurelio.
From the very go it looked like a tight match, as both sides defensive’s were top notch.
Torres time to shine came when he turned Carvalho out on the left, but his run into the box was blocked by both Terry and Cole. Three Chelsea defenders were required to stop the Spanish striker’s dangerous run.
The Blues were a strong threat as Ballack headed over in the six yard box but ended up being unmarked. A second attempt at Liverpool’s net came curtsy of Essien, whose right-footed shot was saved by Pepe Reina.
The dead lock was broken fifteen minutes into the second half when Anelka got on the end of a Drogba cross to beat Reina from five yards out. Not even a miracle of God could help Pepe stop the ball from going in.
Even with three substitutions in the final twenty-five minutes of the game, Liverpool wouldn’t fare any better as Chelsea found and netted another goal. This seal of doom came when deep into stoppage-time, Malouda poked Drogba’s pull-back over the line to make it 2-0 for the Blues.
Hopefully Torres will get his groove back when he goes on international duty this Saturday against Armenia.
