Liverpool Edge Hammers In Thriller
2 views 21 September 2009
Adding a fourth and fifth goal to his Premier League campaign, Torres and the rest of the Liverpool team were able to enjoy hard earned success after a turbulent roller coaster game against the West Ham hammers.
Cutting pass two defenders before driving the ball past Green, Torres left the keeper dumb struck as there was nothing he could do to stop Fernando’s efforts. Only twenty minutes into the game, Liverpool already had the upper hand thanks to El Niño.
Though West Ham wasn’t about to be edged out like that, only having to wait minutes to before they enjoyed an equalizer thanks to Diamanti.
With both teams furiously fighting to get in another goal and take the lead, it was Kuyt who answered to the teams needs as he stabbed the ball into the net thanks to a header by Steven Gerrard. With only minutes left before the break was to be called the Hammers weren’t to be counted out just yet, Carlton Cole throwing in a header of his own and equalizing the score 2-2.
Compared to the first half of the game, the second part was a little more subdued to say the least. Opportunities to get shots in were few and far between, both teams scrambling to break the tie. After all 3 points are far better than just 1, and now a days, who really likes to tie?
Both keepers had a pretty laxed time, with Green called to action on the 75th minute of the game. Taking a cross from substitute Babel, Torres was able to sandwich his way through two defenders and throw in a wonderful header past Green.
The Hammers were now on the offensive as they looked for a way to tie, let alone win the game. But unlike the first 45 minutes, the Reds were more comfortable defending this time around.
The thrilling game ended with Pool on top with a 3-2 victory over West Ham United, and as a bonus to a great game Torres left the pitch to a standing ovation from both home fans and traveling Liverpool supporters. Way to go Torres!
