Fernando Celebrating
With national pride on the line, Fernando Torres was the first to score for his country, when he received a pass from comrade Cesc to put the ball beyond New Zealand defender Moss. The keeper’s desperate dive wasn’t enough to stop Torre’s fantastic shot which flew to the top left corner of the net.
At only six minutes into the game, the Spaniard’s led 1-0 and things would only get sweeter for La Selección. Torres found another shot at the fourteenth minute when Villa and Nando linked up in the the New Zealand box, Villa passed the ball to Torres who calmly shot again for another goal.
Fernando didn’t have to wait long to make his stats read three goals, as he made a beautiful header thanks to Capdevila cross and it powerfully went into the net. Moss, like the first two shots, unable to do a thing to stop the beauty.
With the crowd chanting in admiration, “Torres Torres”, everyone knew that Spain had New Zealand on the ropes. Continuing the on-slaught, Cesc Fabregras contributed to his teams fantastic lead by adding a goal of his own at the twenty-fourth minute.
With the first half gone, The All Whites hoped to come back into the game strong, but the football God’s weren’t on their side that day as Spain added another hurtful shot at the fifth-eight minute by Villa.
With sixty-nine minutes gone, Fernando was taken of the pitch as he was replaced by Silva. The celebrated striker with twenty goals for Spain, tied in seventh place with Julio Salinas in the all-time goalscorer chart.
Vicente Del Bosque’s side ended up taking the win, the end results being 5-0 in Spain’s favor. Very impressive stats for the Spaniard’s first Confederations Cup game. Hopefully Spain will keep their momentum and crush Iraq when they face them this coming Wednesday.
