Torres Always A Team Player
15 views 7 January 2010
It never seizes to amaze me how dedicated, how passionate, how loyal Fernando Torres is towards his club and national team.
It’s never about “me” with this kid, or better yet I should say, this man. Because folks that’s what Torres has proven himself to be since the beginning of his career – a man.
Even though it’s a team sport and most players cater to that idea, theirs something about Torres that comes across as truly honest when he makes statements about being about the team.
With already twelve goals to his name, Torres was asked how many more he’d like to score before the season wraps up, this is what Torres had to say:
“I want as many as we need to get fourth spot and win the FA Cup. I never say a number of goals but always like to score more than the season before. Hopefully that won’t be difficult because I only got 17 last season after the injuries.â€
Cute and overly loyal? Ollala sure got it good, huh ladies?
Looking back to his fifty goals in seventy-two appearances, Fernando had this to state:
“It’s unbelievable for me because Liverpool is not a small club, it’s one of the biggest and most historic in the world. All the players who’ve played here are top players who’ve scored a lot of goals. They’ve got massive records. I am ahead of them on this one now and that, for me, is one of the most important things I’ve done in my career.â€
Well to break his seventeen goal mark one things for sure, Torres needs to be out in games and not out due to injuries. So how is the Spaniard feeling after his injuries?
“I am good now. Much better than a couple of months ago,†said Torres. “I need to keep working three, four or five hours more than the rest of the squad because I need to keep recovering for the rest of the season. It’s a difficult time but it’s worth it if I want to play. I do the normal training session with my teammates, but before and after I have to do treatment, exercises and gym work to make my leg strong enoughâ€.
“We are doing a good job and I’m feeling nothing bad in my leg. I have been able to play 90 minutes in the last four games so I’m really happy with the progression. One of the reasons I’m working really hard is because I know in this situation Liverpool need every player fit. Maybe I’ll have to do this all seasonâ€.
It seems Torres has been having more injuries as of late then before – that’s got to be frustrating, especially for a player like Torres huh?
“It’s frustrating because I’ve never been injured before – not at Atletico and only one small one during my first season here. The last two seasons have been the first time I’ve had consecutive injuries. Always when the team is not in the best moment it’s frustrating if you can’t help your teammates. It’s really hard watching the games from the standsâ€.
“I’m not old but I’m not that young, so I need to look after myself with extra work. I know I have to work harder in order to play three games a week until the end of my career. I need to work harder than beforeâ€, he said.
Always the trooper, Fernando definitely is a football solider always ready to give it his best. But lets also give some proper credit to the medical staff working to get him fit. Fernando surely dose.
“They have helped me a lot. They are the professionals and know what they have to do. It’s thanks to them that I can keep playing. I can play every game now. Without their help maybe I’d not be playing, so thanks to all the physios and medical staff.â€
As to be expected, Torres has once again impressed me by his endless loyalty to Liverpool, noting the strong point, “there’s no ‘I’ in team”.
