Turning of the Turkish flame

The indestructible European champs can’t be stopped! Even with the large amount of pressure from the Turkish fans at the Ali Sami Yen stadium, the red fury that is Spain couldn’t be tamed.

After an emotional minute of silence for the tragedy in Costa de Marfil, the ball started rolling as the game commenced with a slower paced then most anticipated.

After defeating their Turkish rivals in Madrid this past Saturday with a 1-0 win, the Spanish national team looked forward to the same results. Unfortunately for them reaching that goal would be a bit tough this time around after falling short to Semih Senturk’s 26th-minute goal.

Seeing their perfect streak slipping away, the determined Spaniards marched on mustering all their will and determination. It seemed the Turkish side would sink in another goal before half time.

Two occasions perfectly constructed by Senturk only to be squabbled away by Nihat Kahveci. Who instead of focusing on precision shots, decided to bet on silly power shots that clearly missed their mark.

With their heads held high, Spain continued on looking for a perfect time to strike and claim their first goal in the game. The opportunity came when Xabi Alonso transformed a penalty kick into a goal, thanks to ala Fernando Torres who was fallowed minutes before.

With both sides tied the tension only mounted, as hearts from fans of both teams pounded with uneasy rates. A second goal looked close as hand as Torres almost broke through only to lose the shot to a heavy touch.

Anxiety built up as the game was nearing stoppage time. Then like a miracle from the heavens, Substitute Dani Guiza collected a long punt forward and eased past his marker before feeding a low ball across the face of goal where Riera had the fairly simple task of side-footing past Demirel.
