Spain vs. Iraq

Hoping to keep their winning streak going, Spain’s David Villa helped ensure their 14th consecutive international victory in Bloemfontein. Thanks to Villa’s goal, Spain has secured their spot in the semifinals, but not without a fight from Iraq.

Making life hell for Spain from the get go, the Asian champions almost scored a shocker in the 9th minute when Alaa Abdul Zahra snatched on a Gerard Pique mistake to test Iker Casillas from 20 yards.

However La Furia Roja got their game faces on, keeping a tight hold on ball possession. After working a wonderful one-two combination with Xavi, Liverpool striker Torres was denied a shot at the net by Iraq’s Mohammed Kassid.

Spain continued to struggle in trying to find their first goal of the game. The first half came and left, still no goal for the undefeated Spain, the shot of grace came in the 55th minute by David Villa, who helped Spain win the game and equal the longest winning streak in international football history – tieing Brazil at 14 matches won without a loss.

Dominating Group A with such fierce passion, one can only imagine what Spain will do once they move to the semi-finals and have the chance to face teams like Brazil or Italy. Can you picture Torres going toe-to-toe with the likes of Ronaldihno or Kaka on the pitch?
